Historian and Curator
Valmont Layne is a Next Generation Fellow at the Centre for Humanities Research, University of the Western Cape. His research interests include music, sound studies, archives and heritage studies and histories of technology. In 2019 he completed his doctoral thesis titled: Goema’s refrain: Sonic anticipation and the musicking Cape. Valmont is currently working on a book manuscript and a short documentary film project on Cape musicking histories, and is part of a team working to revitalise the archival collections of the University of the Western Cape. He lives in Muizenberg, Cape Town.
