"If anyone was aging, ill, dying, I went the other way. I had many friends who were diagnosed with serious illnesses; I hate to admit it now, but I was unable to be with them." Karen Reppen was - like many of us - terrified of death. But when she decided to confront her fears head-on - by getting a job in hospice - she says her fear changed into joy and wonder at the mystery of death and life.
"It's hard to talk about, but I think you have to be there to witness the before, during and after. How, after someone takes their last breath, the physical body is still there, but there's something else that isn't... at least not in the same realm that it was just moments before. Just moments before! One inhalation before."
Listen in as she tells fascinating stories about how people who are dying get ready to make the final passage.
