He tells Anne Strainchamps that Pope was inspired by people's fascination with the gruesome and that he imported reporters from London's Fleet Street who seemed to have even fewer journalistic scruples than their American counterparts to do things like comb through Henry Kissinger's garbage and photograph Elvis in his coffin.
