Stephen Greenblatt's new book is “Swerve:  How the World Became Modern”.  It’s really two stories rolled into one:  the ancient Roman poet Lucretius’ “On the Nature of Things,” which presented a radical vision of a universe without gods or even underlying purpose – and then the rediscovery of this poem in a 15th century German monastery.
