Tracy Gary was born into a fortune. Her mom was a Pillsbury and her parents continued to make big money throughout their lives.
When Gary got her inheritance, she decided to give it away... all of it. Now she’s helping other people do the same.
She says philanthropy is an opportunity for people at all income levels to connect with - and transform - their communities.
While I respect Ms Gary's philanthropic work, the problem with concentrated wealth is that the wealthy get to set the agenda for its use, based on their values, not necessarily on the public good. THAT'S why our economic and social structures are so out of whack. THAT'S why we need both public tax and private compensation structures that distribute resources more evenly, to prevent dire poverty and its attending social problems in the first place.
