On The Road, On Screen

More than 50 years after its original publication, Jack Kerouac's "On the Road" has been turned into a film. It had its premiere at Cannes this month and should be coming to a theatre near you in the fall.

Beat historian Gerald Nicosia served as the first instructor at the Beat Boot Camp that director Walter Salles created to help educate the young actos about the Beat Generation.  Al Hinkle was one of Neal Cassady's best friends. In this interview they talk about On the Road, and the young woman who - they say - made the Beat Generation possible.
