David Grossman is one of Israel's most celebrated writers.  His novel, To the End of the Land, is about a mother's fear and trepidation as her son goes to war.  Shortly before Grossman finished the book,  his own son was killed while serving in the Israeli army.  The book sparked a national conversation in Israel when it first came out.
